Version Three News Archive

Version 3.03, December 2001

This is a pretty small update, but there's an announcement I've been dying to make: No more WEG books! I finally got SWJ7 into the encyclopedia, so now I have added information from all existing West End Games RPG materials. HOORAY!!!

I have fixed the Reports Switchboard, and hopefully the reports work well enough for you. If you can think of any new reports you'd like to see, let me know! I've also updated the search engine and added more categorization of entries, and fixed the search engine to handle quotes ('), so let me know if you still see problems there. The counters for the encyclopedia are now home-grown, so the delay while loading the old counter is gone.

This will be the penultimate WEG edition, since I've got just one more Star Wars Adventure Journal sitting in my den. I have been trying to match new versions of the encyclopedia to major book releases, and the gap between New Jedi Order books has given me a chance to get deeper into the WEG stack.

The Encyclopedia now has over 30,000 entries!

Added new options in the ASP display code:

  • pop-up windows for source information on Entry, Search, and Arcana pages
  • set the Entries page to display 100 records at a time
  • provided page size modification for Search page
  • added the "New Entries Only" option on the Entry page
  • added icons for images and sounds, with pop-up display windows, if available for an entry
  • put the Links page into a database table

Updated the Search page to show 10 entries per page. Also fixed the Numerics link on the Entries page and re-implemented the Download page.

Changes from Version 2.04 (April 2001):

This is the first version that was done with a database back-end. All the data from the old MSWord encyclopedia was converted to an Access database, then is displayed on the web using Active Server Pages.

 

Check out the Star Wars Outsider, a new fanzine that is being put together by Arthur Papadam, known to most of us as Arf Maul. In the first issue, there will be a story about Vob Bitas, the Star Wars character who was named after me!
