Rodian
This bipedal race, distinguished by their tapir-like faces and multifaceted eyes, was native to the planet Rodia, in the Tyrius system. The skin of a Rodian was green in color, and there was very little physical variation within the species. Thus, non-Rodians often could not tell two individual Rodians apart. Individuals of the species used a complex pheromonal excretion as a form of identification and communication. The mixture of chemicals also served to moisturize the skin of a Rodian, and served as a kind of attractant for finding a mate. However, many non-Rodian beings found the scent to be overpowering and noxious. The average Rodian had pointed ears and a pair of antennae that swiveled in their sockets, allowing them to sense vibrations from many directions and use these vibrations to gain more information about their surroundings. A ridge of spikes ran along the center crest their skulls, and their long, flexible fingers were tipped with suction cups. These unusual fingers allowed a Rodian to climb on the walls or ceiling of an enclosure, much like a gecko or frog. Their large, faceted eyes were capable of seeing into the infrared spectrum, allowing Rodians to hunt by tracking the heat signature of their prey.

Many xenobiologists believed that the Rodians evolved form a species of rock-climbing lizards. As these small reptiles gained intelligence, they realized that they were defenseless against larger predators, and began using tools and fashioning weapons to help ensure their survival. Over time, these ancient reptiloids took the fight to their predators, learning to attack their enemies rather than waiting to be killed. These traits led to the Rodians to evolve as a race of hunters, surviving their planet's tropical environment and establishing a series of war games which lasted for thousands of years. Leadership and recognition was often based on the hunting skills of an individual, and many clans tried to exterminate each other in an effort to establish their own greatness. This period of bloody confrontation coincided with a time when the birthrate among females dropped significantly, to the point that the Rodians were killing each other off faster than they could reproduce. Harido Kavila, the Grand Protector at the time, devised a way for the Rodian people to funnel their violent tendencies through dramatic plays. The stories revolved primarily around violence, but had a well-defined plot and used the violence to magnify the emotional impact of the plays. The Rodian dramas became well-known throughout the galaxy, in part because they were strong dramas but also because they portrayed the full impact of violence on the perpetrator and his victim.

When an Old Republic scout team landed on the planet, the Rodians were there to meet them, armed to the teeth. They annihilated the scout team, and the Grand Protector declared that it was time to take their skills to the stars. However, this grand scheme did not work out as well as they had hoped. Their pheromonal excretions led most traveling Rodians to be ostracized, and their violent nature of resulted in arrests and imprisonment. Those Rodians who managed to make a living in the galactic community worked as bounty hunters for corrupt crime lords, relying on their natural talents to carve out a niche for themselves.

Over time, bounty hunting came to hold a place of high esteem on Rodia. The weapon of choice for a Rodian bounty hunter was the thermal detonator, since a widespread explosion tended to kill more than a single blaster shot. Each bounty hunter was obliged to bring a valid record of his or her kill to the Guild on Rodia for logging in the record books.

During the era of the New Order, many Rodians found work as Imperial lackeys.

When the Yuuzhan Vong subjugated Rodia, the surviving Rodians fled into the wilderness, preferring to stay alive and fight with terrorist-like attacks. The fact that these attacks continued with increasing violence caused the Yuuzhan Vong to admire the Rodian spirit, and many Rodians who were captured were given favored status as slaves. Others were simply genetically altered to become the Vagh Rodiek, a combination of Rodian and other genes that resulted in a crab-like killing beast.
