Tartan-class Patrol Cruiser

This 600-meter-long vessel was produced by the Damorian Manufacturing Corporation, on contract to the Empire during the years following the Clone Wars, as a capital ship that could perform deep-space patrol missions and track down pirates and rebel agents who were using smaller, more maneuverable vessels. The idea was to give the Imperial Navy a ship that was capable of suppressing any illegal activity in the farther reaches of the galaxy, freeing up the larger Star Destroyers to perform their own missions of subjugation and control. Armed with twenty laser cannons, the Tartan-class was initially given poor marks, when its sensor systems were unable to accurately track and monitor the movements of multiple targets at once. This required an expensive upgrade to the tracking and targetting systems to bring the ship to its intended level of operation. The primary drawback to this upgrade was the energy distribution system that linked the computers to the laser cannons, as it drained incredible amounts of power, thereby reducing the amount of energy that could be shunted to the ship's shields. Thus, commanders of Tartan-class vessels learned to take advantage of its maneuverability and speed, keeping any vulnerable points out of enemy fire while ensuring the enemy didn't escape into hyperspace.
