The Bothan homeworld, Bothawui was the third and primary planet in the Both System, and the primary world in the area of the galaxy known as Bothan Space. Sometimes known as Bothawui Proper, it was a cosmopolitan planet that served a major hub for information trafficking. The Bothan spy network had been decsribed as second to none, and much of the information was possesses flows through Bothawui. Note that Specter of the Past indicates that the Bothawui system was located "millions of kilometers from anywhere." It was here that many of the alien races of the New Republic gathered their warships during the Caamas Incident, representing their own opinions and hoping to exact vengeance on the Bothans involved in the destruction of Caamas.

However, cooler heads eventually prevailed, and the impromptu blockade around Bothwaui was lifted. The Bothans remained loyal to the New Republic and, later, the Galactic Alliance, although many Bothans questioned the disturbing events that surrounded the formation of the Galactic Alliance Guard. When the Corellians threatened to secede from the Galactic Alliance, many leaders on Bothawui considered a similar form of independence for their homeworld. This prompted the Galactic Alliance to deploy a small blockade fleet to Bothawui, in an effort to forestall any possible secession.

Unknown to the GA, Tathak K'roylan and a group of military officers worked behind the scenes to ensure their fleet was ready for action. With the help of renegade Admiral Matric Klauskin, K'roylan was able bypass the blockade and join a Commenorian war fleet near Corellia. This combined force overwhelmed the Dodonna and her small fleet, freeing Corellia from its own blockade. In the wake of this military action, both Bothawui and Commenor joined Corellia in claiming their independence from the Galactic Alliance, forming what became known as the Corellian Confederation.
