Hethrir
Category: CharactersThis male Firrerreo was noted for his remarkable amount of vision. Distinguished by his striped hair, colored with gold, copper, and cinnamon brown, Hethrir had very pale skin and a square face. He rose to a leadership position on Firrerre during the years leading up to the Clone Wars, and convinced his people that they had to colonize their nearby planetary neighbors or overrun their planet. However, they did not have hyperdrive capabilities yet, so they set out in sublight ships equipped with hibernation beds. He eventually fell in love with Rillao, and they were married.
When the Empire began hunt down alien races because of Palpatine's xenophobia, Hethrir and Rillao came within the influence of Darth Vader. The pair had been captured by Inquisitor Tremayne, who believed that they had knowledge of Jedi who had survived Order 66. After their interrogations revealed that they were unaware of the Jedi, Vader recognized Hethrir's Force-sensitivity, and secretly took on both Hethrir and Rillao as Jedi students. As part of his Jedi training, Hethrir built a unique lightsaber, which could only be activated by using the Force to complete certain circuits.
Vader also believed that a child of their union would be exceedingly strong. As Hethrir grew in power and eventually sired a son, Tigris, he gained favor in Vader's eyes. Tigris turned to have no Force sensititivy whatsoever, and was placed aboard one of the Firrerreo colony ships.
Hethrir helped turn over his planet and his people to the Empire by allowing the Empire to biologically destroy Firrerre and by giving the Empire the colony ships' flight plans. These acts helped solidify Hethrir's position with Vader as it alienated him from Rillao, who strongly disagreed with Vader's plans. Vader eventually appointed him Procurator of Justice for the Empire, and the atrocities Hethrir perpetrated became infamous. Note that the Hyperspace section of the official Star Wars website indicates that it was Emperor Palpatine, not Darth Vader, who named Hethrir the Procurator of Justice. When Vader appointed Hethrir as the overseer for the Crseih Space Station, Hethrir turned the science outpost into a prison, cruelly torturing the prisoners there.
This led to the emergence of Waru into the galaxy, and Hethrir struck a deal with Waru: absolute power over the Force in return for getting Waru back to his galaxy. This could only be accomplished by allowing Waru to consume a large amount of Force energy, and Hethrir began sacrificing his prisoners to Waru. When the Empire crumbled after the Battle of Endor, Hethrir went into hiding, all the while formulating plans to restore the Empire. Hethrir joined forces with Tremayne and Galak Fyyar, and hoped to assume control of the galaxy. He eventually found Rillao again, and took her to the stranded colony ships, where he placed her in hibernation as he took Tigris as a slave.
Hethrir later re-affirmed his allegiance to Emperor Palpatine when the Emperor was reborn in a clone body on Byss, believing that the Emperor was the physical incarnation of the Dark Side of the Force. Palpatine's final demise gave Hethrir the notion that he was to be the true ruler of the galaxy. He lacked the understanding that Palpatine had of controlling life and death, and believed that Waru could give these abilities to him, in exchange for being returned to its own galaxy. Hethrir eventually determined that the children of Han and Leia Organa Solo were strong enough in the Force that they would help him return Waru to its own galaxy, and so he devised the kidnapping of the children on Munto Codru. Hethrir's plans were foiled, however, by a series of events which led to the New Republic's presence at Crseih station, and Hethrir was eventually consumed by Waru himself. This allowed Waru to return to its own galaxy, and eliminated Hethrir completely.
Note that Young Jedi Knights: Delusions of Grandeur indicates that Hethrir was a human, and that his treatment of Lusa led to her joining the Diversity Alliance.
