December 14, 2007 - Want to See Something Scary?

Well, I got my dome at the local bird store. It's not an Aspects dome, but their own brand. At least it's dimensionally close to what I need. It's 18 inches in diameter at the bottom, so I will need to do some finagling with the dome ring, since the droid body is 18.25 inches in diameter.

So, without further ado... do you want to see something really scary? Scroll down, but be warned...

Looks like something out of a cheap, B-grade sci-fi flick, doesn't it? I just wanted to get a mock-up of what RD-22 was looking like, to get a feel for the colors and what else needed to be done. Inside the dome, you can see the Rockler lazy-susan bearing that will allow the dome to rotate. There will be a dome ring mounted on top of this, to lift the some up the required two inches. When all is said and done, there will be a little motor inside the body that will spin the dome. I hope...
