The table below shows you a few things. First, it's a list of all the things that I need to
either build or purchase to construct RD-22. Second, it shows a projected cost for each part, with an
expected total. Third, it shows what I've actually spent on each item, with a running total. There is also
a comments area, to let you know why something might have a zero cost. I hope to keep this up-to-date, but
bear with me if it's not always current.
One thing I'd like to eventually have is an analysis of what it would cost to build an astromech to be
as true to the real R2-D2 as possible. This would include things like a real JAG aluminum frame (about $750
today... compared to the cost of plywood and MDF below), a real spun aluminum dome (about $450 today...
compared to about $40 for an Aspects polycarbonate bird feeder baffle), and aluminum (versus resin) details.
The problem with this analysis, though, is that it won't accurately reflect the cost of my labor. Ah well,
nothing's perfect!
